‘Beside Me’

If I could hold the moment

When clouded veils obscure

The tired last heat of day

I’d calm the pulse of life itself

And entreat you just to stay.

Beside me now

With shoulders touching

Birds glide across the stage

And silence sits with pressed lips

As we share the turning of the page
